MEZCALERO No. 24 (2020) Wild tepextate (agave marmorata) and hillside espadín distilled in 2016 by Don Baltazar Cruz Gonzales in San Luis del Rio. San Luis gets hot, and this espadín is fruity and soft, perfect backdrop for the intense tepeztate. 46.4% abv

MEZCALERO No. 23 (2019) Wild sierrudo (in this case, a local name for a cousin of agave Mexicano) distilled in 2015 by Don Cosmé Hernández and his son Cirilo in San Baltazar Guélavila. Displays their usual sofyt but precise touch: notably rich fruit deepened by almost 4 years in tank. 46% abv

MEZCALERO No. 22 (2019)816 bottles of wild (and uncommon) bicuishe (Karwinskii variant) distilled in 2015 by Don Valente Angel of Santa Maria La Pila. Very cleanly distilled: elegantly intense and rich, amazing finish. Rested almost 4 years. One of our best. 47.4% abv

MEZCALERO No. 21 (2018)Wild cirial, tepextate, & tobalá distilled in 2016 by Baltazar Cruz of San Luis del Rio. Rich fruit (San Luis gets hot) and excellent complexity and balance. Smoooooth. 48% abv

MEZCALERO No. 20 (2018)Semi-wild Arroqueño (agave americana) distilled in 2016 on a clay pot by Jesús Rios of El Potrero, a tiny spot just off the highway on the other side of the first ridge west of Sola de Vega. Steep terrain brings out the ferality of the intense arroqueño, softened by the clay pot. Very clean. 48.5% abv

MEZCALERO No. 19 (2017) Wild cirial (variant of agave Karwinskii) and cultivated upland espadín (agave angustifolia) distilled in March, 2015 by Don Baltazar Cruz Gonzales in San Luis del Rio, and bottled after more than 2 years in tank. Beautifully distilled. 47% abv.

MEZCALERO No. 18 (2018) Wild and semi-wild agaves bicuishe, madrecuishe (agaves karwinskii), mexicano (agave rhodacantha, or dobadán). and cultivated espadín (agave angustifolia), distilled in May, 2013 by Don Valente Angel in Santa Maria la Pila, and bottled after four years in tank. Amazing presence. 46% abv.

MEZCALERO No. 17 (2016)Wild agave de lumbre, an agave so unknown it has no scientific name, blended at roasting with espadín (agave angustifolia). The distiller is Cirilo Hernandez of San Baltazar Guélavila, who has a marvelous soft touch. Delicate and genuinely rare. 1104 bottles at 48% abv.

MEZCALERO No. 16 (2016)Semi-wild madrecuishe (agave karwinskii) distilled by Don Valente Angel in Santa Maria Pila. The species has high acidity, thus great structure and clarity of flavor in the mezcal. Beautifully distilled. 1308 bottles at 47.2% abv.

MEZCALERO No. 15 (2016)Semi-wild agave americana (sierra negra) from warm-climate mountain slopes, distilled by Baltazar Cruz Gonzales in San Luis del Rio. Sierra negra is notably suave. 1128 bottles at 47.2% abv.

MEZCALERO No. 14 (2015)Semi-wild agave americana (arroqueño) from a remote canyon three hours southwest of Oaxaca. Distlled in clay potstills by Felipe Jesús Rios of Potrero. Arroqueño intensity is softened by distillation in a clay still. 768 bottles at 47.7% abv.

MEZCALERO No. 13 (2015)Wild agave marmorata (tepeztate) and potatorum (tobalá) distilled in May, 2014, by Don Luis Cruz in San Luis del Rio. Tepeztate is rich and spicy; tobalá has great elegance & finesse. 642 bottles at 47.3% abv.

MEZCALERO No. 12 (2015)Wild agave cupreata distilled in Nov 2014 by Emilio Vieyra in San Miguel del Monte, Michoacan. Cupreata is very rarely distilled for export. 1068 bottles at 46.3% abv.

MEZCALERO No. 11 (2015)Semi-wild agave karwinskii (madrecuishe and bicuishe), rhodacantha (Mexicano), and cultivated espadín from distiller Alberto Ortiz (Don Beto) near Miahuatlan. Complex, unusually cleanly distilled. 1068 bottles at 47.3% abv.
